Award Winning Design
Brian Parkes won Top Kitchen Design award for this kitchen at the prestigious Irelands Kitchen Trade Awards held at the Titanic Building in Belfast. A tremendous honour to have his work recognised at such a high level, a pioneer in his industry and continually striving to create award winning designs.
The brief for this kitchen was to create an open plan space for all the family to enjoy. A truly modern family with a busy footfall and a sense of activity whilst the need for peace and tranquility when required. The previous kitchen was too narrow for an island and this family needed an area to provide a casual dining option whilst keeping the cook central to all the activity. On closer inspection Brian was to discover there was a hidden chimney breast in the dividing wall by removing this provided the extra width to accommodate the island. The design process had begun.
The entire space incorporates kitchen, dining and two living spaces and the brief was to allow each of these spaces to function on their own but to create a fluid movement throughout. A grey colour palate was chosen throughout and complimented beautifully with rough oak panelling. The kitchen door fronts are lava grey matt finish with grey ceramic worktops. Siemens appliances have been employed throughout. The large windows flood the space with light and fuses the garden and internal space together.
The dining space incorporates the contrasting wall panels with complementary dining furniture and shelving the kitchen furniture has been wrapped around the dividing wall and emerges into living furniture creating space for all modern day media requirements; sonus, satellite, and other streaming equipment. The second living space benefits from media and televisions design solutions using living furniture from the same range as the kitchen.
One seamless space through out this stylish home creating space for everyone to live, cook and entertain.
